Connection problem with the Garmin Nuvi 700 series (750)?

I have a nuvi 750. The connection between cradle and the car charger seemed loose for a while and was causing the unit to go on and off. The piece inside the cradle where the car charger connects came out when disconnecting the unit. Has this happened to anyone else? Is it safe to assume that all I need is a new cradle?

Hello Jill,

This is very common and the best way to fix it is to replace the cradle

I have had this same problem a year ago. Now I am having problems again. I am not sure yet which piece is bad, the cradle or the cable end that plugs into the cradle. I do have the 750 attached to my motorcycle and I am assuming that the vibration is causing the cradle to go bad.

Due to the weight of the power cord and the torque it exerts on the power inlet of the cradle, the solder connection breaks easily, making the cradle extremely problematic. The NUVI 700 series is a great device but there is a flaw with the cradle. Some folks have said they use tiewraps to strap the cord to the mount, thereby alleviating the stress off the cradle connection. This might work and prolong the cradle's life for a while only. Alternatively, you can power the unit using a usb/power outlet fitting along with the usb cable the NUVI comes woth, but you won't be able to use the traffic FM receiver built into the original cord which hooks to the cradle....kinda defeats the use of having lifetime traffic updater. This product is discontinued, so don't hope that Garmin will fix the problem anytime soon. Be prepared to pay $20/yr for maintenance (new cradle) every year. However, GPSCITY.com or GPSCITY.ca is one of the cheaper vendors out there. GOOD LUCK!
