GPSMap 62s

I've updated the 62s unit software, and I've updated to the latest MapSource version, but all I can download from the machine are the tracks.

I need my waypoints! Please help.

Hi, you are suppose to use Basecamp with the new version of files(GPX) not Mapsource, but if you want all your tracks and waypoints, save them on your desktop (from your old GPS) and then plug and turn on your 62 in the computer...click and drag your file(waypoints and tracks) onto the 62's files...when your unconnect and restart, there's your waypoints and tracks.

Thanks Dan!

I don't remember if there was even a CD-ROM that come with the Garmin 62s. I just took the unit out of the box and ran to the field. Garmin certainly should have mentioned BaseCamp in their Quick Start manual. The unit was pretty stripped-down when it arrived. It came with some carabiner clip, but not a lanyard. I had to make my own lanyard in the field with some twine.

Everything works ok now.

Hello G. Sanders,

The Garmin GPSMap 62S is made for use with Basecamp. Basecamp comes with the NEW topo maps and is also a free download from Garmins site (No maps included with the download).

Hello Dave,

Yes you can. Just place a point and edit the coordinates. You can also create a CSV or GPX file to send over to the unit via a PC.

Hello Ronald,

You will need to update your Delorme software to Version 9. Hopefully that will fix your issues. If it does not fix the problem, then just watch Delorme's site for more updates and let them know because it is a function of their software that is not working.

Hey Chaps

I've been using five garmin 60cx units to measure the land sizes of small holder farmers using the track function. A couple of these have since been replaced with the new 62s units, I'm failing to download the saved tracks into mapsource,(I can only download the current track). From the above thread it seems like i will need to use Basecamp to download from the 62s. Is it posssible to download tracks from the 60cx into basecamp as well? Ideally i would like to download the tracks from both the 60cx and the 62s into the same program. Any ideas???

Cheers

Hello Luke,

Basecamp is a better program and supports both units. Basecamp also allows you to manage the data better

You can convert your Magellan points to a format such as GPX using the Magellan software you own or a third party software. You can then open the GPX file in Basecamp and send to the Garmin GPS. Basecamp is a download from GArmin. You will need your unit plugged into the computer to transfer points. the 62S can not transfer points wireless.

OZI explorer is used for managing your data from multiple units. You will need to buy OZI then buy the maps for it. The maps for it are not loadable into most GPS units.

Basecamp is for managing Garmin data and is free. Basecamp is free but you pay for the maps. The maps will be able to be loaded onto a Garmin GPS. Maps come on DVD or SD card.

They are similar programs but not the same. Basecamp will handle 98% of the things most people want to do. If you have special maps that Basecamp will not view then you will want OZI.

Basecamp is compatible with Windows 7 Ultimate.
It is possible that the download was corrupt.
Try downloading it again and running it.
Garmin Tech Support Indonesia may also be of assistance.
