I am having difficulty creating Routes. I have worked through the supplied manual on creating routes I understand the starting point, selecting the first point then it goes directly to another screen with different categories, “use map”, “recent finds”, “waypoints”, “extras”,etc then the instructions say “touch the first item on the route”
The question is establishing accurate points, if I go to “use map” how should the point be saved.

Hello Don,

The point is saved in the route as a via. If you want it to always be there you can use the map screen to mark them as waypoints. I highly suggest using the computer to make routes. Easier and quicker. Then transfer to the unit. You will need Garmin Basecamp. Basecamp comes with the Topo maps on DVD or is a free download with NO maps. It is highly recommended to get Topo for your unit.

** Make sure you have the latest firmware. Garmin had some route issues in the unit **

Cheers

With my unit I purchased Ontario Backroad GPS map on a SD card. You refer to a Basecamp Topo map program. Is this something to purchase or download. If it comes on a CD how is that loaded on my unit.

Hello Don,

It is recommend always to buy maps on DVD if available. You will get all of Canada with Garmin Topo Canada V4 at a fraction of the cost. It gives you a lot more functionality. You can purchase topo maps with Basecamp from our site or download just basecamp with no maps from Garmin for FREE.

Loading maps from DVD is simple. A program is installed on your computer, you select the maps, then the program send them to your unit. You can store on internal memory or memory card.
