The Garmin 770 that I bought from you several years ago is great for navigating, but is sporadic for getting track information.
Can you recommend a product - preference is Garmin, but I would consider others, that would work well for recording tracks over a trip of several weeks, in or outside Canada.

Hello Ian,

I dont see any issues using the GPSMap 78S to record tracks. It will auto archive them. Before going on your trip be sure to test the unit to make sure it records to data you want and to get familiar with the settings.

Cheers

thanks - some of the original question got lost from the posting. I want to do photo geo-tagging, so I'm looking for a cost effective solution. I thought I read somewhere that archived tracks would lose time information? Is my Nuvi 770 supposed to "archive" tracks, and where would I find those tracks? And what is the "limit"? All I seem to get is from current.gpx, but it got corrupted when I was testing the other day. And it seems to "clear" spontaneously? When it is working, I can get tracks in RoadTrip or Basemap (I'm mostly a Mac user) BUT, on a long trip eg to Europe, I likely won't take a computer, so I need the GPS to retain usable tracks for weeks. I have looked a bit into photo-specific "trackers" but they don't seem up to the reliability I have come to expect from my Garmin! So, I'm looking for recommendations. (I posted under the GPSMap78 since I thought it "might" be a solution, but would an ETrex be better - or ...?)

Hello Ian,

I just did a test with Archived tracks and the date and time stamp is not changed. It may be some bad info floating around the web. Just a correction to my first post The unit wont auto archive them for you, you haved to manually go in and archive them. You should do this often on your trip tp make sure no data is overwritten. Garmin software and units are MAC and PC compatible.

Your Nuvi 770 only saves one track at a time and it will overwrite itself if not downloaded often.

Cheers

Hello Priit,

Yes the odometer shows when no destination is set on the trip computer screen of the handhelds.
