Ball Size of Mounting Assembly?

Original question asked on Oct 21, 2010, 5:31pm
Will the auto mount kit fit onto the 309 handlebar assembly...? Are the ball and socket the same size...?

I ask because I figure I could then just use the cigarette lighter connection directly to my bike with the auto mount attached... I don't need to use the other connections for microphone, etc...

Hello Daniel,

The ball and socket system included with the Zumo 660 uses the same size as the 309 so they are compatible with each other.

Hope This Helps!

What I am asking is whether I can use the auto mount on the 309 handlebar assembly...? That way I can just plug in the cigarette lighter connection instead of hard wiring directly to the battery... I don't need to use the other plugs for microphone, etc...

Hello Daniel,

I understood your question. You will not be able to use the car mount on the bike but you can modify the bike mount to plug into a cigarette lighter port.

Garmin uses a custom ball size for the car mount.

Cheers

How would I go about modifying the bike mount to plug into a cigarette lighter port...?
I do have an extra cigarette lighter connection I can cut off another assembly.
Would I just then have to wire that to the bare wires of the bike mount...? No fuses involved...?

All you need to do is properly wire a cigarette lighter connector to the power cable of the Zumo. Make sure that there is no electronics in the plug you are using. The zumo requires 12V.

Cheers
Jordan
