I have MapSource with an older Canada map set from a GPS65 and have used it for planning trips on my netbook for an older nuvi 205. I bought a new nuvi 265W in Oz, and then downloaded the UK maps from the Garmin site. However, the UK mapping doesn't speak the street names (unlike the Australian maps it came with). I will now need to get a map set for North America, but want to still be able to use it on my netbook and have the street names spoken.

Should I buy a DVD version or an SD card?

Hello Eric,

Sounds like you want to use your netbook for navigation. The software you are looking at will not work. You need the mobile PC version.

If you are not needing netbook navigation then it is always better to get the maps on DVD. SD card data can not be used with you computer. On DVD you can still do your pre-planning.

The UK maps you purchased from Garmin should speak street names because that is a function of your unit and not the map. It could be a setting in the unit.

Cheers

No, I don't use the netbook for navigation -- just planning and managing tracks (I use the recorded track for geotagging photos).

I'll go for the DVD. The UK map speech was a surprise: it speaks the directions okay, but doesn't speak the names -- and there have been no setting changes since Oz where it worked fine.

Thanks

Hello Alfonso,

That is correct you can only use it with one GPS. You will need to buy a second copy for your second GPS.

Cheers
Jordan
