I have the above unit and have found that increasingly it is freezing especially with the data card in and when switching tracks on/off. It used to freeze also when you moved from acq sats page to maps page but this is much more intermittent. Even with a new data card it does this. Without a card it is fine you can toggle as much as you like. Yes I have the latest sw on the device. It's not a cheap device and I have had this issue ever since the first sw upgrade was done but I use it so infrequently. Does anyone else have the problem - found a solution?

There is no known issue that would be causing your problems at this time. Sometimes when non-garmin map or maps that have been improperly unlocked are installed, they will cause the unit to act funny. Here are some suggestions
1. update your unit - This will reset the unit and fix any know issues. The program you need is called webupdater (www.garmin.com)
2. Format your memory cards. the saved maps or GPX file could be corrupted. Then reload your maps.
3. Check that you maps have been properly licensed to your unit by calling Garmin @ 1-800-800-1020. They will have a record of all maps you have unlocked through them. If your problem continues then you may have to send the unit to the nearest repair facility.
4. The maximum size recommended for this GPS is 2Gb. If you are using a larger card that could be the problem.

I had that issue, but after I did a "master reset" my unit seem to be working fine. To reset, I did the following: Turn OFF the unit then holding the QUIT, MENU, OUT buttons, powering the unit back ON.

I think the PAGE, ENTER and POWER sequence also works as "master reset" but doing this gives you a prompt whether you are sure about resetting or something like that. The QUIT, MENU, OUT, and POWER sequence doesn't give you such prompt.

Oh yeah, make sure you back up all of your waypoints, tracks, and routes because after resetting the unit, they will be gone.

I have to say, I started to have these "freezing" every since I used OpenStreetMaps (OSM) compiled for Garmin units, which you can easily find via Googling it.

If I run into another "freezing" event, I'll install a Garmin map and see if resolves the problem.
