I'm seriously interested in buying the Oregon 550. I am planning on getting all my topo software separately as recommended on dvd. I am wondering as well if there's any software to add to this device for aviation usage??...it may serve as an excellent backup if instrumentation in the plane goes awry and the gps could get me home safely??

Hello Flyboy,

Sorry but we do not know of any aviation software for the unit. I don't think there will be for Garmin offers separate aviation units to fill that market.
