Will the addition of a MicroSD card enable the 1390LMT to acquire all of the North American maps? Will the built-in memory access the card to enable the entire database of maps to be downloaded.

Sorry if this question seems redundant but the other Q&A's do not get to the point.

Hello Gary

The built in memory is not enough for updates. At this time you can not put the update on a memory card. The unit does access maps from the memory card but updates only go to internal memory.

Cheers

I actually work for Garmin, and yes, you can use a microSD card to expand the internal memory of the device. I would recommend a 4GB SD card.

So in short you just need to select the Install entire map to disk. Then Run Garmin Mapinstall on your MAC/PC, then select the coverage area you want and select the destination as the memory card.
