At the end of a trip, in the Trip Computer function (screen), how do you stop the trip? (Get the unit to stop the timing functions?)

Hello Fat Marmot,
The trip computer will always be on when the GPS is on. If you need more control of the data the tracklog can be stopped at the end of a trip and analyzed. You can get almost the same data be looking at the track as you would the trip computer.
The Trip Computer is just like the Trip Odometer in a vehicle, you can reset it but not stop it.
