VERY SOLID MOUNT FOR ROUGH SERVICE

We have purchased a number of these RAM cradles. They hold the GPS very securely and make it easy to attach the GPS to one of the RAM ball mounts. I have used these on motorcycles, jeeps, and pickups, all without any issue of the GPS coming loose or getting out of position. Great product that works.

EASY TO USE CRADLE

I have a 1490T for my truck and for my motorcycle so needed another cradle. These cradles make it easy to remove the GPS from the motorcyle and store in saddle bags. Now I don't have to change Complete GPS from one to the other vehicle.

Great cradle. I used it to mount my GPS to my motorcycle. I have not fears at all of it ever falling out. This cradle holds the GPS very secure.
The only thing they could improve on is making the opening for the usb connection a little bigger. My bike/car charger is "L" shaped and I had to cut mine a little bigger to make sure it didn't put too much pressure on the usb port of the GPS when I snap it into the cradle.

This is the third RAM mounting cradle I have purchased as I have upgraded my GPS units. As with every other RAM Mount I have purchased this one does the job perfectly. The 1490 snaps into place easily but takes a deliberate action and effort to remove it. Fully compatible with the existing system in my vehicle. I have found with RAM you get a good mounting system setup for your vehicle and just buy a new cradle when you upgrade your GPS unit.

PORTABILITY
I have 2 og these mounts, plus the mount that came with the GPS. The 2 RAM mounts are on motorcycles and the factory unit is in my truck. The 1390 gets me where I want to go, no matter what vehicle I take. The RAMmounts are secure and work well.

We have several years experience with this mount. We mounted our previous Garmin on a smaller version. A recent gift resulted in the need to acquire a larger version. With the ball mount system the changeover took two minutes and we were on the road again. We have two vehicles and easily transferred the cradles from one to the other.

GREAT SECURE MOUNT
I bought this mount for my new GPS. I will use it on my motorcycle and so needed a mount that could handle a stiffer ride than a car and not flip out accidently. This is a fantastic mount and the GPS will NEVER come out from any bump. A little tough to snap in, but since I am using it with an adjustable ram mount on the bike, I will be gluing it into the mount and then using my lockable connector for total security.

NICE GPS WITH A COUPLE OF DIFFICULTIES
This is a very compact unit with a great screen size and all the bells and whistles most everyone would need. My only objections are two: 1. As you read on other reviews, you can't download the entire North America on one try. Too much data for the unit. This is a joke as they are the leaders in GPS and should never have this issue. You can download 90% of North America and most people aren't traveling coast to coast AND all of Canada. So, Pick your area and download. 2. The actual download time is excessively long and you must sit at your computer for an hour and a half or longer unless you get light speed downloads. This is great for Garmin, but as a customer, this shouldn't take this long and providing achip for download would be much better customer service. I guess they figure your time is worth nothing compared to the $1.00 it would cost them.

I had a Ram mount for another Garmin GPS. All I needed was a new cradle. My old ball mounted right to this cradle. I use it on my motorcycle and it works great. As I've grown to expect from RAM products this cradle is built well and from high quality plastic. The clip takes a little getting used to mostly becayse it requires a firm grip and a strong pull, but it holds the GPS firmly in place. People not used to cradles of this type may be a little concerned about the longevity/elasticity of the plastic clip but I'm not worried as my experience so far is that they last practically forever (have a six year old RAM mount for eTrex on my motorcycle that still looks and feels as new). Excellent fit and finish, it blends with the GPS and holds it really well, even on a motorcycle.

My old Garman Nuvi died and I upgraded to a new model. AS my luck would have it, the old mount would not fit the new Nuvi. SO I ordered the new mount, comfident that it would work with my motorcycle ball mount. It arrived in a timely manner and I quickly opened the package and proceeded to test fit it. It fit wonderfully and secured my Nuvi like fingers in a glove. I put it to the test by mounting it to my mo=torcycle and going on a 400 mile ride. I was delighted with the mount as I was with the older mount. Last week we gave it an extended test on a 2752 mile trip over all types of roads including the northeast, where the roads had been decimated by the weather. My Cradle handled every curve and every pothole and was ready for more. Ram makes high quality mounts that are an excellent value. Express mounts is equally as good with fast service and lightning fast shipping. I would recommend Ram moounts to anyone and will buy from Express Mounts whenever I need a mount.

RAM CRADLE FOR GARMIN 1400 SERIES

This is a well made full frame, high quality cradle that securely holds the GPS in place offering added protection in case of mount failure and eliminates any possibility of accidental dislodging from the cradle. If however you don't want to purchase new mounts as well the unit needs to be adapted to fit all the various Garmin mounting bases/units because the RAM mount adapter ball size is a different diameter then Garmin's. This is easily done by grinding off just the edges on your old Garmin cradle that clip on to the GPS unit's frame thereby making it flat and securing it to the back of the RAM full frame cradle using the screws provided. I also suggest using some small washers for extra tightness. This custom fitting task takes about 10 minutes. I have 3 different mounts in 3 different vehicles and this completely solves the issue of moving from one to another.

Pros: ram solid. great for permanent installations.
Cons: bad design if you remove gps frequently.
For security when parked I like to remove my GPS unit from the mount and stow it so it's not a visible thief magnet. Unplugging and replugging in the unit often will destroy the USB port over time. There's not a way to remove the unit from this mount without unplugging the cable. It would have been very simple to have a gap at the bottom so the cord could slide out.

The GPS mount was intended for mounting on my motorcycle. It is very secure and I have no fear of the GPS falling out. Actually the exact opposite, it's actually difficult to take the gps out when wearing gloves because the latch at the top catches on the little dimples for the OEM holder.

When I got the newer larger screen Garmin 1490T, I needed to get it on my Harley before my trip. The new RAM mount fit right into my old bracket. And, gpscity.com got it to me in time to go.

GARMIN GPS MOUNT
Holds GPS securely. I had to use my Dremal tool to remove some of the plastic from the rear of the cradle so I could get the power plug to go in.

Pros: user friendly
Cons: software, and short mount
I bought this Garmin gps after using a 276C for several years and I was disappointed in the new software. Apparently when I called and spoke with tech support, they informed me that the new software does not include all the streets on the map like my older gps.They said that was because so many people complained about clutter on the map. I believe a map should show all of the streets, after all that is what maps do.

OK GPS MOUNT
Pros: light weight and easy to instrall.
Cons: cord hole in the back of the mount should be bigge
This mount does the job that it was intended to do. Could be improved. The individual on the order dest was extremely helpful... instead of ordering a completely new mount, he was very helpful in selecting the item that was required to retrofit my old mount.

Works great, a much more stable and solid mounting system than the mount supplied with the 1490. For a motorhome a windshield mount is not posible.

Pros: quality product
Quality product. My only problem with it is that you can't plug the GPS in until it is in the cradle. You can't take it out of the cradle without unplugging it. However it can be easily fixed with a small grinder. Just would have thought RAM would have addressed it. Might not be a problem for others, but where it is mounted on my motorcycle it is difficult to reach the plug.

1490T CRADLE REVIEW
Pros: strong easy to use
Cons: won't allow the usb power cable to come out
Very good construction and holds the unit well. The one thing that isn't good is it won't let the power cable come out with the unit to unplug it. You have to snap the 1490T into the cradle then try to get behind it to plug in the usb power connector. In my case my unit is mounted close to the dash and windshield and I can't get behind the unit without seperateing the cradle from the arm.

RAM GPS CRADLE - GARMIN 1490T
Pros: cheap, secure
Cons: no lock
Very sturdy mount. Much stronger "snap" than the Garmin and has a lipped frame for no slip mount. Suitable for motorcycling but would be nice if there was a lock feature for extreme jolts.

EXCELLENT CRADLE FOR GARMIN NUVI 1490T

Cons: a little difficulty in removing the gps from
The nuvi 1490T snapped in to the cradle very securely, allowing me to fasten it to a compatible RAM flexible arm and and RAM suction mount. I feel far more comfortable with this setup than the packed in suction mount.
