NOT FOR GLARE SHIELD
Cons: bad design, does not work.
First, I read another review that National Products was dumb for putting the thumbscrews on the same side as the ball so you could not easily tighten or adjust the thumbscrews. Ok, I thought and I drilled and tapped the other side of the mount so I could put the thumbscrews on the bottom or the bracket. One problem sort of solved.
Second, the thumbscrews they supply are plastic. They have not broken yet but I guarantee if I use this (See 3 below) they will. They are not Delron or a fiber plastic that is strong, they are a simple and light gauge plastic.
Third, This is sold as a glare shield mount for aircraft. That is what I bought it for. Well I have yet to find an aircraft that this is wide enough to allow the glare shield to fit into. Including the space for the rubber bumpers they supply that goes on the end of the thumbscrew this bracket needs to be almost twice as thick. I have tried this in Cessna 172's, 182's, 206's and 210's as well as a VAN's RV and a Piper. Nothing fits and since I drilled and tapped the other side I am stuck with it.

GOOD IDEA, BAD EXECUTION
Pros: none. Cons: difficult to impossible to actually use.
I have a mount from this company that came with my GPS, and it's a great example of the kind of work they can do. This is not. The product is basically a clamp with a couple thumbscrews going through it. The idea is that you put a piece of tin (included) between the thumbscrews and the surface you're clamping to, so that the thumbscrews don't mar the surface.
Unfortunately, the piece of tin is not as deep as the clamp, which gives it a lot of room to wiggle. As you tighten the thumbscrews, the tin walks right out of position, so there is really no way to make it work. Further, the thumbscrews are too close to the edge. They didn't bother machining a little slot in the clamp to help hold the tin in place, either. My impression is that they just slapped it together and didn't really test it. If I can figure out all these problems in 10 minutes, what were they doing? Seriously? Did they even take it up in an actual airplane??? 'Cause I tried, and it just flat out didn't work.
I sent an email to RAM Mounts about this and they never even replied. Way to go, RAM!
