IMPRESSED

Just tried it out this weekend and am very impressed! Went in the backcountry on some rough roads and it held gps device nice and secure! Solid contraption, good quality materials and it looks great in the vehicle! Would recommend this device to anyone whose going off-roading....Get it!!!

GARMIN MONTANA SCREEN PROTECTOR

These protectors don't stand up as well as the Zagg ones do, but they still do a pretty good job. Also, they go on a lot easier than the Zagg style, and are a lot cheaper.

RAM IT!

Being made by RAM, that says alot. A very versatile item that can be easily adapted to hold multiple sized items. With changes in technologies and new products coming out all the time, this product will allow you to make one purchase that should be able to be used for some time by not having to constantly be buying new mounts. That however does come with a cost. While it's strong in function, it looks a bit clunky compared to mounts that are custom designed to hold a specific product. Assembly was not difficult, but it was a bit tricky to get all of the hardware in the mounting "fingers" and get them properly adjusted.

Pros: solid, options for holding differnet sized items
Cons: a little tricky to get hardware in & fingers set

HARD TO READ THE NUMBERS

I really like the patch itself, but the metal plate that has the tracking number is very difficult to read. It isn't etched in far enough. At the first event that I wore it to, other cachers were having difficulty reading the numbers. Some cachers take pictures of trackables to log later and many of the cachers said that the numbers were hard to read and probably wouldn't be readable in the photo they took. PS I put one of those magnets that you see on other badges and it worked great. The stickie side stays nicely on the velcro and then the magnet goes inside your shirt. It holds well and then you can easily transfer it on to any shirt or bag you have at the event.

Pros: patch itself is very nice
Cons: tracking number very difficult to read.

DEZL 760

I bought this for our van (class-B) camper to replace a Rand McNally 7710. The dezl is a lot faster than the Rand McNally and has the Garmin interface I'm used to from the car. The dezl has an RV mode but unlike the Rand McNally it doesn't have a way of specifying that you have propane onboard and that it should avoid routes where propane isn't allowed. This is the primary feature the Rand McNally has over the dezl.

I downloaded a list of campgrounds from poi factory and added them as custom POIs.

When in RV mode it warns you of roads that trucks are forbidden on and it (like the Rand McNally) randomly warns of "Sharp Curve ahead" on completely straight parts of roads.

The bluetooth phone volume is very quiet compared to the navigation volume. You can use the GPS mixer function to change the relative volumes of the navigation and phone volumes.

I bought a Nuvi and Zumo series portable friction mount for this unit and have it sitting on the dash now instead of using the screen suction cup mount.

LOTS OF FEATURES

We bought this GPS to replace a nuvi 680 and for a trip to Europe and it worked really well. The "real directions" is interesting and seems natural. It says "in 400 meters, turn left on Main Street" and then follow up with "turn left at the lights" when you actually arrive at the Main Street intersection.

The voice command works a lot better than I expected and I find I use it for 80-90% of my interaction with the unit. It either gets it right or otherwise it is wildly and often amusingly wrong.

The main navigation screen shows a great deal of information including the road you're currently on.

The only complaint I have is that the bluetooth pair phone volume is very quiet. There is an audio mixer on the device that you can use to turn down the navigation volume and increase the phone volume. You can then increase the master volume to compensate. The only issue with doing this is that when you give it a Voice command it screams at you because the audio from that seems to be either at the Master Volume level or the phone audio level.

In the Toronto area the traffic service seems to confuse the unit and it flip-flops between 6 minute delays to 20 minute delay to 6 minute delay in the span of 2-3 minutes. I'm not sure if other traffic receivers also have this issue. Traffic services do work in at least Germany with this nuvi.

I purchased the North American Europe Lifetime maps upgrade (thanks for the link gpscity.ca) and that should keep my maps up to date.

I bought a Nuvi and Zumo Series portable friction mount for it so it sits on the dash instead of using the suction cap window mount.

Pros: fast and lots of information on the screen.

EASY TO MOVE

Much easier to move around so either driver or passenger can look at it. Easier to remove stand from GPS. when we exit the car we never leave the GPS behind. Sits on the dashboard and does not move as one turns corners or makes sudden stops.

WORKS WELL EVEN ON DEZL 760

We bought two of these - one for a deal 760 (7") and one for a nuvi 2577 (5"). This stand works well on both of them and hasn't fallen over or slid from where we put it.

The underside is a slightly tacky material that doesn't stick to the dash but does add extra friction.

It works better than the beanbag style mounts we've used in the past because there is no need for the suction cup that always seems to come loose on those. The GPS clips directly on the ball of this mount.
