Summary

Rocanda was started in 1987 by Julian Romocki, a chemical engineer who spent most of his career with Turbo Resources. While at Turbo Julian was responsible for the advent of many new products for the oil and gas industry in Canada. Just before leaving Turbo, Julian came across a product developed by Buckman Laboratories of Canada, Ltd.: SPI 2400.

The SPI 2400 (non-ionic surfactant with a C18 structure having the characteristic dimethylamide of an unsaturated fatty acid group) product was being used in the water treatment industry and to date had no oil and gas applications.

Julian was convinced that the SPI 2400 product exhibited properties which would make it highly effective in combating asphaltenes and paraffins, two of the common problems plaguing production of heavy oil. Therefore, he took a gamble and started Rocanda Enterprises on the hope that the product would indeed prove effective.

Julian's gamble paid off as it was found that the SPI 2400 molecule was extremely effective in:

Resuspending asphaltenes by mimicking the natural resins of heavy oil
Penetrating, dispersing, and dissolving sludges, paraffins and asphaltenic deposits
Breaking water in oil emulsions and water blocks by reducing the interfacial tension that exists between the oil and water phases
Coating sand and clay solids and leaving the particles water wet
Significantly reducing the viscosity of heavy oil
Providing corrosion control by forming a protective film on metal surfaces
Buckman Laboratories was so impressed with the lab data that they further improved the SPI 2400 formulation, and filed patents against its application in stimulations, workovers, and miscible floods. Rocanda now distributes all Buckman oil and gas products and is continually devising new products.

In order to get more effective distribution of our stimulation products we allied ourselves with the premier service company in Western Canada: Trican Well Service Ltd.. We work jointly with Trican to develop the best possible and most cost effective workover and stimulation fluids for heavy oil applications. The historical data speaks for itself as do our customer testimonials. We currently have 30 tanks in the field ranging from 60,000 litres to 120,000 litres.
