AMPS Hole Pattern

The AMPS hole pattern is an industry standard hole configuration. It consists of four (4) holes located in a rectangular pattern spaced at 1.188" by 1.813". The AMPS hole pattern can be found on the RAM Mount Round Plates (ending in 202) or the RAM Square AMPS Plate (RAM-B-347). The RAM Mount Diamond Plates will connect to diagonal holes of the AMPS hole pattern. Most third party mounting devices and cradles have the AMPS hole pattern, allowing you to connect your own cradle to the RAM Mounting System.

For a layout of the hole spacing and 1.0 inch rubber ball location, take a closer look with the RAM-B-202 Design Drawings (pdf file).

Ball Center

When calculating the height/length measurement of a RAM Mounting System that ends in a round ball or socket end, the measuring point is taken from either the center point of the round ball or from the center point of the socket. The center point of the socket is equal to the center point of a rubber ball when placed into the arm socket. The reason the ball center is used for measuring the length or height of the RAM Mount Components is to allow for the easy calculation of the complete height/length of connected parts, as the ball center point is also the center point of the ball an socket rotation.

Grip-Lock™ Dual Socket Arms

A standard RAM Mount double socket arm includes a tighten knob on the side of the arm. The Grip-Lock Arm has a nut that can be turned wth enough tension to hold the ball and socket connection in place, but does not hold as firm as the standard arm knob.

NPT Thread and Pipe Size

NPT Size (NPS)Pipe Outer Dia. (OD)Threads/inch
1/4"0.540"18
1/2"0.840"14
1"1.315"11.5
NPT (National Pipe Thread) is a standard used in joining pipes and fittings that have a tapered thread. As a general rule, the NPT inch size is the inside diameter of the threaded pipe and is known as the NPS (Nominal Pipe Size). The outer diameter (OD) of the pipe is shown in this table.

RAM Mount Assembly

The RAM Mount Assembly is a mouting system consists of a RAM Double Socket Arm with a mounting base at one end, and a RAM Diamond Plate at the other. These system mount directly to the back of the RAM Cradles and to third party mounts that have a AMPS hole pattern.

VESA Hole Pattern

The VESA hole pattern is an industry standard hole configuration found on the back of most flat screen monitors. It consists of four (4) holes located in a square pattern spaced at either 2.95" x 2.95" (75mm x 75mm) or 3.94" x 3.94" (100mm x 100mm). The VESA hole pattern can be found on the RAM Mount Square VESA Mounting Plates.

For a layout of the hole spacing and 1.5 inch rubber ball location, take a closer look with the RAM-246 Design Drawings (pdf file) and the RAM-246-1 Design Drawings (pdf file).
