TOMTOM XLONE

Quality wise, this unit is very good. Does the job very well. Only bad side is the unclear functionality this unit has with Bluetooth. >> THIS UNIT CANNOT BE USED AS HANDS FREE SOLUTION FOR CELL PHONES. In other words, it can only be used to connect via bluetooth to a cell phone with data/internet access (traffic feature support). The "Bluetooth Support" can be confusing but aside from this, very good unit for 100$ , which was I believe a liquidation early november 2008 .....

TOMTOM ONE XL

I have only had this unit for a short time but I love it. Great price. Works very well, gets me around the city right to the door of the destination. Loud enough for me to hear when I use it in my TJ. Lots of options can’t fault the unit at all. The only black mark. I called there help line with a question took 45 min to get through

A LOT OF GPS FOR THE MONEY

I've been a dyed-in-the-wool Garmin user since the eMap ... upgrading to 2 more units over time ... ending with the Nuvi 300. The NUVI was my last Garmin because I cracked the screen on it accidentally and the cost for repair was $175. The unit was just under 2 months old. It was my fault so I expected to pay for the repair, so I begrudgingly agreed to invest another $175 in a unit I wasn't happy with from the get go. Luckily, the French Postal System lost the NUVI enroute to the UK for repair and I cashed out the insurance to purchase this TomTom ONE XL instead. I had never looked around much since Garmin was THE GPS for a long time. Well, the GPS world had passed me by while I was blinded by my brand-loyalty. The NUVI experience cured me in that I had become very annoyed by the proprietary nature of every Garmin update, afterthought Macintosh tools "forever beta" and high cost for add-on maps, which nowadays is a rip-off given Google Earth/Maps integration with most GPS. Needless to say, I was very pleased to see all the great features of the ONE XL ... great graphics, great tools for the Mac (big plus), much better touch screen, worldwide map and POI exchange community, map updates on the fly while you drive and much, much more. Buh-bye, Garmin .... Hello, TomTom!

I got the TomTom One XL from my Dad as a gift and I am really enjoying it. It was fairly straightforward right out of the box and very intuitive. In my home stomping grounds I don't really have a need for a device like this as I know where I'm going but that being the case it was a good way to test out the unit. I tried it driving around 2 cities I am very familiar with as well as a 5.5 hour highway trip and the unit was very accurate. I am getting ready for a trip to L.A. and I had been thinking about renting one with the car we are renting but know I'll take my own. That will be the best test of the unit but I do feel pretty confident heading into that type of area now that I have a little help finding my way. The only down side is that the suction cup mount that came with the unit did not work with my dash which is where I prefer to mount the unit. It kept coming undone and the unit fell to the floor. However this is OK as I have a RAM Mount and cradle on order which I believe will solve that problem.
