GLOBALSAT BU353 USB CABLE GPS
Pros: dead simple to use. Cons: a pain to mount securely on a plastic dash
I bought this specifically for use with an in-vehicle laptop and ArcPAD. It works perfectly! The only drawback is that the USB to COM drive will sometimes configure as COM3: and sometimes as COM4:. This means that the GPS config in ArcPAD needs to be amended on occasion. I guess it must have something to do with the order the USB devices are connected, or the USB port the GPS Puck is plugged into. Other than that, for the price, this is an excellent piece of kit.

GLOBALSAT BU353 USB CABLE GPS
Pros: the best way to use a gps with any computer device Cons: a longer cable might be nice, but extension works
I'm delighted. Two of my brothers/(In-laws) have already ordered one each as a result of seeing mine in operation. We use them for navigating using google earth on a netbook in the B.C. "outback", where there are literally thousands of 'uncharted' forestry access roads. All you have to do to make your own maps is to use google earth and 'fly over' the terrain you want to navigate through before you leave home then it stays in the map cache storage and can be displayed even without an internet connection in the bush. I first used a similar one from a different manufacturer for marine navigation and I will use this one for that, as well as in an airplane, as soon as I get my pilots license renewed.

BU353 FAST AND EASY
Pros: great product Cons: included 5 foot usb cable is too short for marine
The BU353 works fast and following the instructions results in Easy installation on any system. GPS Signal acquired much faster than on my old Raymarine 424 Chartplotter. In under an hour I installed the drivers and checked the Windows Device Manager for correct the COMM port and installed the marine navigation program 'Sea ClearII' and a Street mapping program 'DeLorme Street Atlas' on two different Win7Pro64 systems (an Intel dual core and a quad core) and the BU353 GPS antenna worked great and very fast with both programs and on both computers. Only deficiency is the included 5 foot long USB chord. The USB Cable is too short for most marine applications and is more suitable for in vehicle use. A longer USB Male to Female USB extension cable should be ordered also from any computer supplier such as Tiger Direct or Geeks.com So it sure would be nice if the BU353 came with a 10 to 12 foot long USB cable, instead of the 5 foot cable so the need to order/buy another cable would be eliminated. BU353: Great product, at a very reasonable price.

EXCELLENT!
Pros: great price, reliable, awesome looking, easy use! Cons: none.
This receiver replaced my Garmin GPS-20X. It acquires signals a lot faster and it's far more reliable. It also works with Win 7 64bit and Garmin's Mobile PC software!

GLOBALSAT BU353 USB CABLE GPS
Pros: none that i observed
I was looking for a convenient easily portable unit to give me the geodetic co-ordinates I am standing on - precise latitude and longitude - nothing more - no built in digital maps or driving directions to the next town, and this device delivered admirably. Using an old Compaq Armada E500 laptop running Windows 2000 SP4, from Nosehill in Calgary, AB, it gave me the exact co-ordinates I was standing on. In fact, it continued streaming co-ordinates until I shut down, so the unit could very likely be interfaced effectively with navigation and mapping devices.

WINDOWS DRIVER IS BUGGY
Pros: good gps receiver Cons: bad prolific pl2303 drivers
The drivers available for this device on Windows are very buggy. It can be made to work, but I recommend that you do not buy this model until Prolific (the company that makes the chipset used in this device) fixes its Windows driver. (Still bad at release 1.3.0) I develop GPS software and have tested many USB devices, this is the only one I specifically warn against. (Note this device might be fine for Windows or Mac, I have only tested under Windows.)

I bought this unit to use with a laptop. It locks in rapidly, is powered fine from the USB and is very small and lightweight. It has even locked in from the inside of a metal mobile home in a location several feet from any window!

BU353 USB REVIEW
Pros: works as advertised Cons: none i can think of
Excellent product. I'm using it on a couple of old Toshiba Tecra 8000 laptops running Win 98SE, Microsoft Streets and Trips, and Nobeltec Marine Navigation Suite. The software installed with no hiccups. The receiver is very fast to acquire signal even under less than ideal conditions.

BEST DEVICE TO TRANSFORM YOURLAPTOP INTO A TOP GPS
Pros: powerfull reception, waterproof, inexpensive, simple Cons: could have a support for fixed mount outside
As regular sailors in Antarctic and Patagonian waters we never found a better solution to transform laptops - in our case macbooks - into a powerful chartplotter, AIS and navigation unit. You only need to install your preferred chart program. We use Macenc for macs or Fugawi for pcs, with navionics charts (18XG-2 Soth America, for SA, Falklands or South Georgia for ex.)

AMAZING GPS RECEPTION
Pros: sensitive, reliable satellite fixes. Cons: cable is plastic covered, stiff in cooler temps.
I have been using the BU353 with Microsoft Streets and Trips, and am amazed with the performance of the GPS. I have used it inside our home and on a moving train with excellent reception. Only occasionally are there insufficient satellites to obtain a fix, and these would be due to extreme conditions such as passing through a deep rock cut. The GPS quickly recovers from these interruptions when conditions improve.
