I have used the Garmin 60C for 2 months now and love it for specific purposes. The color screen is actually easy to read in bright daylight - I use it regularly while paddling on rivers and lakes in a variety of kayaks. I used to previously print out a paper map and protect it in a clear plastic sleeve, but this is cumbersome as I have to stop, try to find my location, and then orient the map correctly. With the GPS I can track my location immediately, and see where to turn ahead long before I get there. To use it effectively, however, you must buy the ~$99 US TOPO software and download the general area you are planning to drive and paddle through. With the supplied USB cable this takes about 5 minutes once you get the hang of it. Without the extra detailed maps downloaded all that comes with the unit are basic state highways and larger roads, ok for long trips on big roads, but not too useful for local trips. On a recent trip the Okefenokee Swamp the downloaded maps clearly showed amazing amounts of details that only very large paper maps could show. It also shows local cemeteries among its features and on two occasions I could paddle and walk directly to these with pin point accuracy. Why? in one case it lead me to a civil war cemetery of interest. In other a historical cementary of a swamp family. The points of interest also help to absolutely confirm your location. I bought the $15 overview DVD and used it to get the basics down - the amount of learning to use all of the features can be overwhelming, but trial and error and reading the clear manual can get you there. I actually found a local (very large) outdoor sporting goods store has free GPS classes once a week, although I didn't need to use that resource. The 60C is useful when driving, but the small screen means you need to be careful when holding and manipulating the many buttons. I don't do geocaching but it worked successfully last easter when I had the kids, who had never used the 60C, find their easter candy baskets out in the backyard. Overall I have been very satisfied. Warning - they don't float, keep a lanyard on it. It is waterproof for 30 minutes at 1 meter. It is lost in anything deeper than that.
