...That was the question I seriously asked their technical support. I've read plenty of poor reviews on this product, but I figured that they may have been by non-professional mappers and so I should give it a chance as a person who works with GIS software and may have a different perspective. To be fair - this IS the only consumer priced (under $50) software that has GPS street routing for handhelds that I have found so far, MS Streets and Trips 2005 is GREAT but doesn't have handheld routing capabilities. But was it worth $40? No, maybe $20.
It is extremely frustrating and glichy. My first problem was that their roads are out of date and there is very limited editing which couldn't fix this simple problem - an exit built off our major interstate 3 years ago, that is current on online direction programs and MS Streets are not current in this program - Technial support said they're doing a major update this summer, so I asked if I could download it when they're done, and was told no - return the current program and wait to buy the new release.
"Return it and wait ro purchase the new release" was the answer to ALL my questions/problems. My issues ranged from crashing, to voice commands happening 5 minutes early or 5 minutes too late, to missing intuitive features - like wouldn't it be nice if there was an option to automatically select the map panels on the route you create, so you can download both route and map to your handheld - instead you manually get to select map panels - all along the highway across the state...
They do have a 30 day return policy, and they seem to expect that you will return it, so they don't give you a hard time about it - but they only reimburse purchase price, and by this time you've paid shipping/tax to receive the item, and you get to ship it back to them on your dime - so the loser in all this is you - your time, your money, for a product that all their tech staff know is best returned.

I'm going to keep this very simple and to the point. I have used only three other GPS software products for my IPAQ and this is the absolute worst. If this were the only software available I'd sell the GPS reciever. If I worked for Delorme I'd quit or tell people I was a portajohn cleaner or maybe even a lawyer before I'd admit I put out this kind of product. Please Please Please, don't waste your money on this!!!

I agree that this is the worst of any I have ver used. It comes with no predefined maps and requires you to select grids (over 1000 for my state) to export to a map that is routable on the handheld. The export is painfully long and creates maps 10 times the storage size as other maps I have used. I would not recomend this product to anyone.
