make great inexpensive but useful swag for dropping in
caches! Superior in every way to other open gate faux
carabiners.
I have been looking for these for over two years for another
purpose. I wanted the screw barrel type clips like this for
attaching camera equipment to straps. Other keychain style
clips are not nearly as strong though they look it because
they are only a "C" (structurally) and the gates don't lock
securely. This clip is a complete structural "O" (when the
barrel is screwed closed) and superior in strength and
security. I use them on camera equipment (strap to camera)
and they would suit GPS equipment in a similar application.
I have tested mine to >200lbs load with no apparent
weakening or deformation though I would not recommend using
them consistently at that capacity. They easily carry my
camera body and 70-200 zoom lens easily and securely and
even if the camera is dropped a significant distance, it
wouldn't exceed the breaking strength of these great little
clips..
