Hello,
I like the device for tracking my mileage, needs some work concerning the downloaded program in logging the information. Not user friendly, hard to work with.
The power adapter was broken when it arrived, but replaced by Eric (Owner of GiSTEQ promptly) GiSTEQ needs faster customer service in returning left phone messages. Called 3x's before my 4th call was answered to ask a question about updates with the program. New version supposed to be coming out by June/July 2013 as told by Eric.

The Tripbook Data Logger, all in all, serves its purpose very well. The downside is that it takes FOREVER to get a signal, which is VERY annoying! Another thing is that when you plug your device back in after taking a ridiculous amount of time setting it up the first time, everything is earsed and it startes you over, bare-bones again. It is a HUGE pain to set up and takes a lot of time. The point was to save time and this is just as difficult--it would be easier to MapQuest your trips at the end of the day and print it out.
However, you can edit all details, and it has a lot of great options...if it would just save your changes and be something you could set up one time and personalize and customize ONE TIME vs. having to do it every time, it would be far more helpful and worth it.

Not a bad product, but misses the mark a little bit. The
unit itself, once plugged in works better at recording
locations than other units I have, very accurate and quick
to get a signal. Odd thing about this unit is you have to
use agps about once a week in order to get that signal
quickly. If you don't update the satellite info, after a
week or two it can take up to 5 minutes to get a lock and
track properly. This is inconvenient, so make sure to
update the unit with agps. Also, the software you use to
download your trip info is lacking and needs further
development.
I drive a truck with constant power to my 12v accessory
plug, even when turned off. If I plug the gps logger into
the lighter and leave it their all day, go to my
appointments and stay at each one for a minimum of 4
minutes, it will log that address. But, when I export a
report, it only shows the starting address and the ending
address. I have to manually split the log file "in the
details window of the tripbook software", in order to have
it export the excel report showing each stop. If, one of
the other guys in the office who drives an SUV where the 12v
accessory isn't powered when the vehicle isn't running, goes
to his first appointment and stays for more than 4 minutes.
Shuts the vehicle off, finishes the appointment, he needs to
turn the car on and wait 4 minutes in order for it to
capture his address as a start. Very weird. I contacted
Gisteq and asked them how should we be using the device
correctly (the manuals don't say anything about this, except
that the device needs to be powered for 4 minutes in order
to capture the location as a stop), they told me to turn the
unit off at every stop. This method doesn't really work. I
recommend, leave it on all day and manually split your stops
after. Doing this is a bit of work, especially if you have
to go back and do a months worth.
Gisteq needs to address this in the next version of their
software, to make this little unit a really effective tool.
Too change gears a little, I've bought a few things from GPS
City. I'm very pleased with the service I received from
their customer service. Delivery was always speedy, even
for a rude impatient guy like myself...(yes, that is a sort
of round about way apology to GPS City)
