Recent reviews for this item: Ted, July 23, 2012 I have this GPS marine mount wired into my boat beside a
depth sounder. External power is fed from my boat through
the depth sounder and the GPS unit's onboard battery is not
required. I have it wired directly to my Humminbird 728 for
both power and NMEA GPS serial data. The Montana GPS turns
on when I power up the Humminbird and the NMEA data is fed
immediately for the GPS capability and functionality of the
depth sounder. Great add on if you require an external GPS
data source.
