Unit 6 months old and started to loose the satelite connection. Updated all software rebooted, very inconsistant some days worked others not. Could not find cure or a repair depot so replaced it with a Garmin 2595LMT...works great

This is my first gps so I had no prior experience to compare to. Out of the box, plugged it in to charge it up and pick up the updates. I selected the areas I wanted to operate in, and uploaded them (unlike some reviews I read before I bought mine, that memory capacity is an issue, I did not have any problems with this). First run was in my Jimmy and found the 1490 very user friendly and had no issues to run it. I plan to use the gps on my motorcycle and although it would be nice if it were waterproof I dont ride in bad weather. I could not justify paying $650 for a waterproof model. I am happy with this choice.

Exactly what I was looking for in a GPS. Large screen, lifetime traffic and map updates. I plan on using it on a motorcycle. The equivalent motorcycle GPS model costs about $650 more than this Nuvi 1490LMT. The only downside is that it is not waterproof. I can handle that issue since I don't usually ride in the rain much at all.
