I received the nuvi 255W as a retirement gift 6 months ago
and Im satisfied with how it works in my truck. I purchased
a Ram Mount for my motorcycle and I'm waiting for a power
cable to hard wire it on my bike. The unit does NOT come with
a USB cable to connect with your computer. I don't understand
how Garmin expects you to update the maps without a
cable, luckily my USB cable for my Motorola cell phone works
with this unit so I was able to update the maps. I understand
this model is now discontinued.

My model is a 250 and it doesn't work in my toyota camary.
It works part time in my truck. As a result I have purchased
a Magellan 3045-LM which works very well in both vehicles. No
one can tell me why it doesn't work in the car including Garmin.

I purchased the Nuvi 255 probably back in September of 2010
from Canadian Tire Corporation for approx.$150.00 I read
through the literature/manuals and knew about the free map
upgrade offer. However there was no place to buy the USB
cable to connect the device to my computer. I even brought
the device to Radio Shack during Christmas 2010 and about
six different employees could not determine how to upgrade
the Garmin because they didn't have a USB cable to fit the
device. I grasped the extent of my problem when I realized
the maps already installed on the device must be 6-7 years
old. I had open heart surgery in June 2006 in St. John's
and I briefly stayed with my sister-in-law at her home on
#4 Trebble Place which was built about 8 years ago. The
Garmin did not have it on maps when I tried to locate the
address last week.. As I continued to search other
addresses both in St. John's and here in Grand Falls-
Windsor I am completely convinced these maps must be very
old and out of date. That is dishonest and an outright
attempt in my opinion to force me to buy upgrades which I
do not intend to do without a satisfactory explanation. I
will write, e-mail and call every person and outlet if I
have to, to make my complaint heard loud and clear. I
finally found a service specialist at Walmart yesterday who
had a USB cable in stock which enabled me to register my
Garmin device. I am very disappointed in this product.
I have also found that on several occasions when the device
has to recalculate after over shooting an intersection it
gets confused and is unable to correct itself. Thankfully I
was able to find my own directions without help from this
GPS.

I purchased this unit for my always getting lost daughter. It certainly works great
for her.
