I have purchased exclusively Garmin units for work, travel, and marine use. I currently have three Garmins that I regularly use. There is a lot to like about the Nuvi 3597. I like the voice command, I like the routing, I like the big display. The only reason I am reserved is that I have not been able to connect the unit to my computer. I downloaded the Garmin "Connect" program and used the Garmin cable. This issue is unresolved so I am stuck with a vehicle icon that is hard to see (blue vehicle on a blueroad) and I cannot yet update the map files. This is the first problem I have ever experience with a Garmin and my email of several weeks ago to Garmin remained unanswered.

This device is an upgrade from a Nuvi 3590 for me.
Some features are more polished, like the voice command, the turn after landmarks instead of street names and the display of POIs. The screen is beautiful (but has glare).
However, typical Garmin, they removed some features like the ability to customize the dashboard now leaving only one customizable item.
I also find the main screen very heavy graphically. A lot of real estate is taken by background bars for speed, street names, etc. which in my opinion is not necessary. Also, any add-on (ecoroute Hd or traffic) uses more screen to display (hidding themap) and cannot be displayed at the same time. It used to be that the ecoroute leaf turned colour (from green to red) and the info could be displayed as floating on the map, the same for traffic.
The proximity alerts for speed cameras are also gone (this may be a configuration issue...)
I am also experiencing frozen touch screen and need to reset every time I connect the device. Hopefully this will be fixed with a firmware update.
Overall it's not a bad product but Garmin needs to rethink the navigation interface (the menus are fine).

By far the best and fastest nuvi that Garmin has ever produced.

This GPS is amazing. I've been using Garmin for 10 years and this is the best one yet. I LOVE it. May get another for my wife's car because I want this one in mine! It has a bright and clear screen that can be seen easily in daylight with my sun glasses on. My NUVI765 was hard to see.
Easy to use voice commands... and they're accurate as well. The magnetic mount feature makes it easy to take off or put on the dash/window mount.
It was worth the wait. Get one.
