I'm satisfied with the Nuvi 550. I bought it to use on my
ATV and motorcycle since it's one of the lower cost GPS
units that's waterproof. My brother has one and uses it
for snowmobiling and swears by it.
This is my third Garmin GPS, so I'm very familiar with the
operating system. I use a 16gb class 10 microSD to upload
my topographic maps, which work fine. I also connected the
FM traffic cord from my Nuvi 265WT, and on first start-up
it downloaded updated traffic software and seems to work
satisfactorily. I had no problem updating the maps from
the Garmin website when I first purchased the unit.
The unit locks up and needs to be rebooted occasionally
(more often when the FM traffic antenna connected). I like
the more colourful maps on this unit, but they tend to wash
out the appearance of the secondary roads and logging roads
on the Topo Canada topograhic maps.
The AutoMoto kit came with a surprising number of mounting
options (very good), and I bought the Garmin cradle and
hard-wiring kit separately but haven't installed it yet.
Overall, the unit is good. I like the screen resolution
and wide-screen format of my 265wt better, but the 265wt is
absolutely not waterproof and malfunctions when it gets
damp, so the 550 should be a big improvement.
GPSCity has an excellent price (even compared to US
websites), very fast shipping and very helpful reviews.
I've bought a few GPS units from them and some software,
and will come back again.

Made this purchase because I wanted a waterproof unit for my
motorcycle and something I could move to my vehicle when I
needed. Unit came with a fantastic cash of RAM connectors
for my motorcycle and car. I was actually surprised at the
components that came. Very good. Unit itself is cumbersome
and slow. Simple but cumbersome. Screen is so small it is
easy to make errors on entries and then have to go back etc.
In some cases I have asked for a specific location and it
just kept showing me an hourglass (for about 5 mins) so I
just backed out and tried something else. Battery is good. I
have not run it dry yet, but for the most part if you are
only out for a couple of hours and turn the unit off while
you are not using it the battery seems to last a long time.
