This thing is heavy duty. The suction cup has come off the windshield once in the months since I purchased it - when the weather was switching from cold to warm so it kind of makes sense. the clamp holds the phone very very securely, and the entire thing is like a rock once tightened down Ed, May 10, 2013 I purchased the RAM mount and holder a few weeks ago. It is solid, and positions the phone - whether doing a hands-free call, or using the built-in GPS & maps apps.

Bustymuffins, April 1, 2013 Was looking for a mount for my new iPhone 5 and different sites like Amazon, YouTube, and Consumer Reports are my usual go-to sites for reviews. After looking at all the sites, it seemed like the RAM series of mounts were highly rated across all the sites I went looking for one.
After coming here, I looked at the different mounts and found this X-grip mount. After looking at what I needed and what they had to offer, I purchased this mount because it had many great reviews, had a suction cup base so I could move it around, and looked pretty sturdy in regards to build quality.
After unpacking the mount and putting it together (a trivial task), I tried sticking the suction cup to almost anything I could just to see how it held up. The only thing I can say is this mount just won't let go once it's stuck. Glass, Doors, Walls, Cabinets, etc. Once that suction cup is locked, the grip holds on for dear life but once you unlock it, it becomes very easy to remove it.
I put this in my car so I could record videos on the roadand use GPS, Siri, etc. hands-free and haven't regretted purchasing this mount. It won't let go of my phone once it's mounted and keeps everything very stable. No shaking, bouncing around, or sliding out. Makes for very easy use. If people ever ask for recommendations on mounts, I'll be going straight to RAM since they build high-quality products, they are made for pretty much anything, have a variety of mounting options, and are very reasonably priced for what you get.
If your looking for a phone mount, you can't go wrong with this one.
