Have been using a cheaper solution for years but finally broke
down and got a REAL mounting solution. NOT sorry at all!
Should have done this a LONG time ago.

Kit is just several pieces:
- floor plate
- stiff metal rod
- corrugated plastic tubing, a cosmetic cover for rod
- ball mount socket
You screw the floor plate to your car... then the rod
inserts into a matching hole in the floor plate and is
secured with a nut. The plastic sheath just slides over the
rod. The ball socket mount just slides over the rod and
held in place with a nut. The ball mount then fits into the
socket and tension is adjusted with a large plastic wingnut.
To remove the ball mount, and thus the item attached, you
almost spin out the wing nut all the way. The wingnut/bolt
should be longer. The metal rod needs to be bent using a
vise, and is nothing at all like a gooseneck lamp. Once you
choose your position that's it. The rod should be longer...
The floor mount requires a vertical car seat bolt,
unfortunately my Honda Civic has a horizontal bolt with
little clearance on the passenger left side. Either that or
you drill into your car - thanks but no. You might possibly
be able to bend the floor mount plate, but equally likely it
might snap in half...
Removing the mount if not in use, would require that you
undo the floor mount/seat bolt (no thanks) or the floor
mount/rod nut (no thanks), or just leave it waving into
space (which will look stupid). I think some kind of quick
release mechanism at the floor mount would be ideal, but
would add bulk and cost.
All said, I decided not to install this device for the
moment in my Honda Civic.

Used the tablet mount in our 2011 Subaru outback on a week
long road trip Into Alberta. some vibration that was
expected, i was able to dampen it. had a Samsung galaxy 10.1
mounted above it, and it was awesome. Wife even put the road
maps away..A 1st in 40 years.. LOL. Now just searching fdor
a GPS maping program for the Androind Tablet, that will be
ike a full GPS, suggestions welcome. off road ones would be
also welcome. great choice GPS CIty. rick.m

Most ancillary items you buy promise a lot and deliver
somewhat less than advertised. The RAM vehicle floor mount
plate is a well designed, high quality product that will
meet your need for just about any mount application you can
think of. I purchase one to evaluate it's quality and
usability and like it so much that I purchased two more to
put in my other vehicles.
The mount installs in less than ten (10) minutes, and is
quite stout. I also purchased several of the ball mounts for
the various HF/VHF/UHF radios I switch in and out of my
trucks and cars. It is sturdy enough that it holds an
IC-706MKIIG steady in my Jeep CJ5, even in off-road
environments. The convenience of being able to quickly
disconnect the ball mount with the turn of a single thumb
screw is priceless. The design of the mount makes it quick
and easy to remove the antenna and power connection,
disconnect the ball mount, and the radio is in the house or
in the trunk or lock box in a jiffy.
The other outstanding feature of the mount is the
adjust-ability. This is NOT a gooseneck stem that will wear
out with use. The support stems is made of a strong pliable
metal alloy, that's stiff, but bendable.
Overall, I have to give RAM five stars for quality and
innovation. No holes to drill and quick installation. This
mount will hold up to outside environments (such as the
Jeep) and still perform. I highly recommend this product to
anyone that needs a non-permanent installation and/or had
limited space for a radio mount.
