The pin is the weak link in an otherwise good product. It
is hard to initially get in, and damage to the plastic
housing is likely if you force it. Now I find that the pin
falls out when it is not under load. When the mount in on,
it is secure, but when I remove it, the pin falls out.
The mount itself is great and I would give it a 5 otherwise.

After receiving an email from Ram-Mount I once again
attempted to assemble the mount. I had to trim the strap to
fit the handlebar of the bike, and hadn't trimmed enough of
it to let the strap seat properly. After trimming it more it
snapped into place, and then the rest of the assembly was
easy, The cradle itself is made for a 2nd gen ipod, and even
with the enclosed spacer my 4th gen touch has a lot of space
side to side, but was never in danger of falling out. For
this reason my review goes from a 2 to a 4

I had high expectations for this mount when I ordered it. I
liked the idea of a bicycle mount that was easily removed
and attached. When I ordered it I had not realized that the
product was back ordered, and anxiously waited weeks for it
to ship. It finally arrived today, and I carefully read the
instructions before starting assembly. When I finally got to
the part where the strap attaches to the mount, I realized
there was a problem. There is a pin that goes through the
strap and there are 2 holes in the mount that the pin is
'supposed' to go through, in the way a watch band connects
to a wrist watch. The problem is that the 2nd hole that the
pin goes through is drilled lower than the first, which is
good in theory to keep the pin from falling out, but is so
low that it is almost impossible to get it in. I tried for a
solid half hour before giving up and writing to Ram-Mounts
expressing my displeasure. I told them the product is great
in theory, but needs more R&D. Even if I did manage to get
it attached I'm apprehensive about using it, knowing that a
badly designed mount is all there is between my $300 iPod
and the pavement. I may permanently attach the mount with
zip ties, which is the mount I should have gone with in the
first place.
As for the iPod holder itself, it is designed for a
tough 2G (is even printed on the back of it) so the 4G
rattles around in it unless you use their "fix" which is a
piece of sticky foam...so buyer beware!
