Spring is finally here. Decided to take the bicycle out today for first ride of season. I removed my Garmin Nuvi 40LM from my truck and went to install it on to the Ram Mount Strap Link Ball. The Garmin Nuvi factory mount would not press fit onto the Ram ball. Measured the Ram ball against the Garmin ball with dial calipers and the Ram ball is about one tenth of an inch greater than the Garmin ball.A lot of shoving and pushing and still no go. Am hoping that Ram makes a ball that is compatible with the Nuvi 40LM but I hate to just start guessing and wasting money. This is turning into quite a project.I am hoping that someone can reply and help me out.
Thanks,Mark

This is an update to the review I submitted yesterday. After not being able to get mount snug enough I removed mount from handlebar and was able to uncrumple the adhesive strip as I had wadded it up yesterday when checking for tightness. I then reinserted strap through mounting slot and pulled as tight as it would go. This made for a small loop that I could see was smaller than the diameter of my handlebar. So this tells me it should work on the handlebar. Left it sitting looped all night on my desk in the hopes to relax and preform the plastic. Tried it this morning with the screwdriver pull method mentioned yesterday and still could not pull tight enough. I should mention all this was done with the bicycle in the house where it is warm. It is still winter here.
Alright, time for plan B: I reinserted the strap and pulled it tight and then soaked the mount in a cup of hot but not boiling water for a few minutes. Removed from hot water, undid strap and toweled dry and quickly remounted to handlebar again using the screwdriver pull method. Tighter but still not quite enough. OK, let it cool down and check again. How about that, it is now very snug, not absolute tight but snug. I think it may work.
Still winter here, so will not be able to road test for several more weeks. If while riding the bike the mount does not hold tight to the bar with the GPS mounted I will try double sided carpet tape. I am determined to have a GPS on my bicycle!
I do think that if you needed this for a larger diameter bar you would not run into the issues I had. The components are typical RAM tough. I was pulling pretty hard on that strap. I think the strap system is a bit robust for my application.I think a thinner, lighter duty strap would actually conform to the handlebar better and require less pulling power to get it snug.
So I will upgrade my rating to three stars. Hope this info is helpful to others who have run into the same problem as I encountered.

I will start by saying I love Ram Mounts. I have a couple for my motorcycle. This is my second order with Express Mounts. Happy with them. But I am unhappy with this unit. May be alright for larger handlebars but it is not suitable for my Schwinn Discover. Could not tighten enough to prevent slipping around bar.I even inserted a screwdriver handle through the finger pull hole to provide more pulling power( You will break your finger using the pull hole before you can get it tight enough). I gritted my teeth, I even grunted a little. Still not tight enough. It needs to tighten a couple more clicks but sorry to say it ain't happening. In rotating the EZ strap to check for tightness I ended up tearing and curling the adhesive pad up into a wad. I can not imagine your average Joe with this thing, I have spent my life working with my hands for a living and I could not make it work. I think they should have done more R & D on this one before sending it to market. A mechanical fastening system would have done the job better.

The mount hardly grips to my handlebars. After a few bumps,
I find the mount starting to swivel around the handlebar
(while my phone is attached). I have tightened the mount as
humanly possible, to the point of temporary loss of feeling
by pinching the nerves in my finger. It works, but not as
well as other RAM mounts I own.
