I got this Garmin i2 last week. It did a very good job. First of all, the back light of i2 is the same as the color model. Very bright. The monochrome screen is perfectly fine with out color. Voice direction is very useful and precise. Level 4 of 5 already loud enough for most of the road condition in my Hyundai accent.
This is only a GPS, not a human, so you should have basic knowledge about where are you going. because the map is pretty precise, but the address is not. So make sure the address is right, by checking an update printed version of map, or ask the people who know the desination.
The detour function is extremely helpful. Just 2 clicks in navigation mode, reroute in less than 15 secs, and bring you to a new route that can reach the destination, very useful for avoid traffic, and accidents on the road.
Battery life is as describe. About 6 hours for 2 AA battery. Custom Point of Interests can be loaded easily with comma saperated files (.csv) just type in the latitude, longitude,"name" in a text file and save it in .csv will do the job. One file can contain unlimited point of interests. And the Points will be reordered according to the distance form your current location.
For this price range, this is the best choice. Just need to make sure your desination is right, you don't need to worry about the route in between.

I've had my i2 since last fall. It finally got its big test while I WAS IN Salt Lake City on vacation. Perfect for the job. First off it is so tiny it takes up little room in the luggage. The screen is briht and clear and even though small is easy to see. It is very easy to find locations. I took it in the hotel at night and found the locations of attractions the night before and then saved them as favorites. The funny thing was that my rental car was equipped withone of the Hertz Neverlost Magellan units. If ound it confusing and after one try went back to my little i2. At the $234 that GPS City wants for this unit it is a fantastic bargain. It is true voice navigation and it is the absolute cheapest that you can buy.
