It took two emails to resolve installing the drivers for
this device.
#1 Consult the Windows Device Manager regarding
installation of the Tripp Lite U209-000-R. The U209-000-R
adaptor is installed correctly when it is listed and
assigned as a COM port. If the U209-000-R adaptor is not
installed correctly, you should see a yellow exclamation
mark next to the device indicating it is not working
properly. At that point, update the driver, and point the
installer to the driver which you downloaded.
#2There is no install program for the drivers. The easiest
way to get it to work will be to create a new folder that
you can save the drivers into and then when you go to add
the hardware and it asks for the drivers, you would just
select the folder you saved them to and it will install
them from there.
I went to their web site and downloaded updated drivers.
Works OK now but was frustrating because the disk supplied
has no setup.exe to install.

The GPS-City webpage for this device includes a link to Mac
instructions. This is misleading as the device is not
compatible with Mac. The device sold by GPS City is a
Tripp-Lite U209-000-R. I contacted Tripp-Lite directly and
this is their response:
Dear Steven,
Thank you for your recent inquiry.
At this time we do not have any drivers available for our
U209-000-R that will allow the device to be used on Mac
systems.
Unfortunately we cannot provide the specific chip sets used
on our products since they are proprietary and unable to be
disclosed.
We apologize for the inconvenience.
Thank you for choosing Tripp Lite!

I have since purchased a Keyspan Adaptor model: USA-19HS,
and it works fine with Mac OSX. I am able to load my Garmin
eTrex data directly into Google Earth. The Keyspan adaptor
comes with Windows, Mac, and Linux drivers on a standard
size CD. Interestingly, the Keyspan is manufactured by
Tripp-Lite.
I suggest that GPS City add a clear statement that the
device they offer (U209-000-R) is Windows only.

The (mini) CD that was shipped with the unit contained the
drivers both for PC and Macintosh. However, the MC driver can
only be read with the old system 9 ("Classic"). I wrote
Support for an updtated driver weeks ago and I am still
waiting for a reply. In the meantime, the unit is useless.
